Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing: The DJI Air 3 is equipped with Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing – consisting of both an Infrared System, plus Forward, Backward, and Downward Visions Systems along with a high-performance vision computing engine to sense obstacles in all directions precisely and plan a safe flight route that avoids them.

  • Vision Sensors: The Forward, Backward, and Downward Vision Systems consist of two cameras each. These vision systems help the aircraft perceive the environment around it for safer and more intelligent flight control. Each set of cameras works in conjunction with the others to provide visual coverage around the aircraft. The forward, backward, and upward vision systems are accurate up to 59′ (18 meters); the lateral vision system is accurate up to 98.4′ (30 meters); the downward vision system is accurate up to 45.9′ (14 meters).
  • Infrared & Downward Sensors: The Infrared Sensing System consists of two 3-Dimensional infrared modules. The Infrared 3D sensing system helps the aircraft assess the distance to obstacles, the ground, and calculate the aircraft position more accurately when combined with the Vision System. In addition, an Auxiliary Bottom Light located on the underside of the aircraft improves viability for the Downward Vision System in weak light conditions. The light will automatically turn on in low-light conditions when the flight altitude is under 16.4′ (5 meters). The light can also be manually activated in the DJI Fly app.
Note: Flight Autonomy only provides a certain amount of protection in specific environments and does not compensate for user judgment during flight. DJI warranty does not cover any loss caused by crashing. Please be aware of your surroundings and app notifications when operating the Air 3 to ensure safety.

APAS 5.0 Obstacle Avoidance: Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS) 5.0 utilizes an advanced mapping technology for smooth following and reliable obstacle avoidance in complex scenarios. Obstacle avoidance performance and automatic flight planning has dramatically improved compared to previous generations, increasing safety and providing more options. The Air 3 is equipped with both an Infrared Sensing System, as well as a Forward, Backward, and Downward Vision System.

Notes:

  • The Advanced Pilot Assistance System is only available in Normal and Cine Flight modes.
  • The Vision System cameras are factory calibrated. If any abnormality is detected with a vision system camera, the aircraft will automatically preform calibration; not further manual calibration is required.

O4 HD Video Transmission: The DJI Air 3 and the included DJI RC-N2 remote controller feature DJI’s latest O4 video transmission technology. O4 works on 2.4GHz, 5.1GHz, and 5.8GHz frequency bands and is capable of selecting the best transmission channel automatically. This allows it to transmit a 1080p/60fps HD live view from the aircraft to the DJI Fly app on your mobile device at a maximum transmission range of 12.4 miles (20 km; measured in a wide open area with no interference).

Flight Modes: The DJI Air 3 has 4 flight modes. The Normal, Sport, and Cine mode can be selected manually. The Air 3 switches to the Attitude mode automatically in certain flight scenarios.

  • Normal Mode: In this mode, the aircraft utilizes GPS and the Forward, Backward, and Downward Vision Systems, a well as the Infrared Sensing System to locate itself and stabilize. When the GPS signal is strong, the aircraft uses GPS to locate itself and stabilize. When the GPS is weak and the lighting conditions are sufficient, the aircraft uses vision systems to locate itself and stabilize. Maximum speed is 26.8 mph in Normal mode.
  • Sport Mode: In Sport mode, the aircraft uses GPS for positioning and the aircraft responses are optimized for agility and speed making it more responsive to control stick movements. It can reach a maximum speed of 46.9 mph in Sport Mode. The Forward and Backward Vision Systems are disabled in Sport mode, which means the aircraft cannot sense obstacles and avoid them automatically.
  • Cine Mode: Cine mode is based on Normal mode a limited flight speed, making the aircraft more stable during photo and video shooting.
  • Attitude Mode: The aircraft automatically changes to this mode when the Vision Systems are unavailable or disabled and either the GPS signal is weak or the compass is experiencing interference. When the Vision Systems are unavailable the aircraft is not able to position itself or auto-brake, so potential flight hazards exist when flying in this mode. Environmental factors such as wind can result in horizontal shifting, which may present hazards – especially when flying in confined spaces.

Return To Home (RTH): The Return to Home (RTH) function brings the aircraft back to the last recored Home Point when the GPS signal is strong. It does this by recording its real-time flight path, and when you choose to return home or if the control signal gets lost or the battery is low, the aircraft will fly towards the Home Point, bypassing any signal obstruction and reconnect to the controller. When the Air 3 detects an obstacle, it will choose a proper path to bypass it according to its altitude. The aircraft will match the images of the ground with those captured at takeoff for increased landing accuracy. When landing automatically, the Air 3 will scan the terrain of the landing area in real-time, then warn the user and safely hover if it detects

Note: If the aircraft’s video link signal is lost during flight while the remote controller is still able to operate the movements of the aircraft, there will be a prompt to initiate RTH that can be canceled.

Flight Recorder: Flight data including flight telemetry, aircraft status information, and other parameters are automatically saved to the internal data recorder of the DJI Air 3. The data can be accessed using the DJI Assistant 2 software program (compatible with Windows PC and Mac).
