Handy on the links
The Nikon Coolshot 50i uses a laser to offer precise distance measurements on the golf course. This ergonomic rangefinder fits comfortably in your hand, and offers 6X magnification with a measurement range of up to 1,200 yards. When you’re not using it, you can stick the 50i to any magnetic surface — like your golf-cart frame — so it’s out of the way, but always ready.
Golf-specific technology
Incline/Decline technology displays slope-adjusted distance for a more accurate reading when you’re making uphill or downhill shots. An 8-second continuous measurement mode lets you survey the entire approach to the pin, including sand traps, water features, and trees. And the Dual Locked On Quake feature gives you a visual cue and a gentle vibration, to let you know you’re locked onto the pin instead of background objects.
Features
Overview: The Nikon Coolshot 50i laser rangefinder helps your golf game by giving you accurate distance measurements up to 1200 yards instantly with the press of a button. Nikon’s ID technology and Dual Locked-on Quake feature give you even more accurate readings, so you can play more aggressively. The unit is compact and lightweight, with a durable rainproof finish to give it a non-slip grip. The Coolshot 50i is powered by a 3-volt Lithium battery (included), and comes with a handy storage case that can be worn on the belt or clipped to your bag.
Slope-adjusted Distance: The Coolshot 50i features Nikon’s advanced ID Technology, which provides you a slope-adjusted distance for your uphill or downhill shots. The rangefinder automatically detects whether the shot is on an incline or decline and adds or subtracts yardage based on the slope. The slope-adjusted distance is equal to the horizontal distance ± height. This helps you choose the right club and hit the ball at the proper trajectory. Using the Mode button, Golf Mode (with ID Technology enabled) can be turned off, if desired, so you can see the actual distance display, and use the device during tournament play in compliance with USGA Local Rule 14-3. The device has an Actual Distance Indicator (ADI) that glows when the inclinometer function is not being used and the rangefinder is measuring the Actual Distance (and not the Slope-adjusted Distance). The ADI indicates to your competitors that you’re not using the ID Technology mode, and are in compliance with tournament rules.
First Target Priority: When measuring overlapping subjects, such as the flagstick with trees in the background, the First Target Priority algorithm displays the distance to the closest subject. The Locked On sign glows in the display to confirm that you are measuring the desired target (the pin), and not an object in the background.
Dual Locked On Quake: When you’re trying to measuring the distance to the pin, the Coolshot 50i gives you a visual confirmation (“Locked On”) in the display, and a gentle vibration to let you know you’re locked on to the pin, and not a tree or other object 20 yards beyond the pin.
Magnet: The Coolshot 50i has a strong built-in magnet on the right side panel that lets you safely attach the rangefinder to a metal surface such as the golf cart. The word “MAGNET” is embossed on the side panel to remind you which side to stick to the cart. As a precaution, you should make sure the rangefinder is securely set in place before driving the cart.
One Button Operation: The Coolshot 50i laser rangefinder gives you fast and simple measurements by pressing the top-mounted power button. The unit emits invisible, eye-safe infrared energy pulses (EN/IEC Class 1M Laser) that reflect off of the selected target back to its optical receiver. The distance is instantly calculated and displayed on an internal OLED panel for approximately 8 seconds. The unit displays the distance to the nearest target among multiple results obtained with a single measurement. The “locked on” symbol appears around the target to indicate the First Target Priority.
Display Modes: The Coolshot 50i lets you switch between two modes:
- Golf Mode: displays slope-adjusted distance ± height
- Actual Distance Mode: displays actual distance
Display Luminance: The brightness of the internal display can adjusted, if desired. You can choose a preset luminance of 1 (darkest) to 5 (brightest). The factory default setting is 5.
Nikon Optics: The Coolshot 50i uses Nikon glass and multicoating technology to give you clear views with high contrast. Anti-glare and high-contrast coatings help provide you a clear view of your target.
Diopter Ring: The viewfinder has a diopter ring for adjusting the rangefinder to your eyesight. A diopter index indicates “+” and “-” positions, and has an range of ±3 m⁻¹.
Eye Relief: The Coolshot 50i’s eyepiece provides a long 17mm eye relief for easy viewing, even with eyeglasses.
Distance Measurements: Distances from 6 to 1200 yards are measured in 0.5-yard increments below 1000 yards and in 1-yard increments at 1000 yards and over. When switched to metric distances, it measures 5 to 1090 meters in 0.5-meter increments below 1000 meters, and in 1-meter increments at 1000 meters or above. You can switch the units of measurement from yards to meters by pressing the top-mounted Mode button.
Continuous Measurement: You can measure the distance of different targets during the 8 seconds the laser is emitting. The distances of each object are displayed as you aim at them. For example, using continuous measurement, you can measure the distance to a tree in the foreground, and to the flag in the background.
Weatherproof Design: The Coolshot 50i has a weatherproof design (IPX4) so you can use it in wet conditions. It can withstand temperatures between 14°F and 122°F, and 80% or less relative humidity.
Power Requirements: The Coolshot 50i operates on a single 3-volt CR-2 Lithium battery (included). Battery status is displayed in the viewfinder during normal operations. A new CR-2 battery has enough energy to perform continuous measurements approximately 13,000 times (at approximately 68°F).
